I think there still could be an issue about the «Further
remarks» section: I would not recommend telnet clients to
manually interact with server implementations of simple
plaintext protocols.

As a telnet client, the application is expected to handle
telnet negotiation and telnet control functions. It might
also be possible that a telnet client does some special
character handling (e.g. converting CR to CR/LF).

I can imagine, that these circumstance may lead to problem
when debugging plain text protocols with a telnet client.
Therefore it would be safer to use tools such as netcat in
this case.
