You're right that that's what the Markdown spec says, but I don't
think that it's a good idea to submit to those Markdown rules for
the document metadata which is going to be at the top of each
document.

I'd rather define a document format for OpenISO.org which takes a
lot of inspiration from Markdown but which doesn't require that
trainling whitespace.  While we're at it, I'd also like to be able
to use <URI> style links.
