I absolutely agree. We want a single standard for a single purpose. Word
processing? One standard please (e.g. OpenOffice). Vector graphics? One
standard please (e.g. SVG). There are some cases like bitmapped graphics
where having a lossy standard (e.g. JPEG) and a lossless standard (e.g.
PNG) would be of use, however, because they serve slightly different
purposes.
